Saffron Hall continues to keep up the good work with some interesting programmes. Smaller concert halls, particularly those out of town, are often very dependent on whatever is currently being offered for touring. But Saffron Hall has some tempting things on offer during January and February. There is Ian Bostridge in Brahms lieder, including the Op.32 cycle, the re-formed Penguin Cafe Orchestra mixing classics with items from their latest album, Iestyn Davies and lutenist Thomas Dunford performing English songs by Dolwand, Danyel and Johnson plus Nico Muhly; pianist Paul Lewis plays Beethoven's final piano sonatas on a Steinway that he selected for the hall, and Nicola Benedetti is appearing with La Cetra Barockorchester Basel and Andrea Marcon in Geminiani and Vivaldi (and yes they are doing The Four Seasons).
Michael Morpurgo is combining drama and live music, including violinist Daniel Pioro and the Storyteller's Ensemble, in a performance of his book
The Mozart Question.
Saffron Hall opened in November 2013, and is a 730 seat hall in the grounds of
Saffron Walden County High School. And it is very convenient for the M11.
