Charismatic cellist Gabriella Swallow and her Urban Family are putting on a fund-raising concert for refugees. All proceeds from the concert at The Forge, Camden on 12 July 2016 will go to Help Refugees and to Ian Shaw's initiative working with refugees in Calais. The event mixes classical and contemporary music with jazz, poetry and more, and performers will include singer-songwriter Judith Owen, singer Lore Lixenberg, jazz trumpeter Graham Flowers, violinist Rakhi Singh, soprano Sally Silver, and piano duet team Charles Owen and Katya Apekishiva.
Gabriella Swallow trained traditionally at the Royal College of Music but has since then combined a career in classical music with performing in jazz, pop and elsewhere. She makes her BBC Proms debut later this year, and has been recently working with musicians as diverse as Nigel Kennedy, and Gwilym Simcock.
