Spectrum is the Associated Board's (ABRSM) piano music aimed at producing serious solo contemporary works by the most distinguished composers of our time, to be playable by talented amateur, student and professional pianists. The latest collection, Spectrum 5 is being launched on 5 November 2016 with a concert at the Royal College of Music's Britten Theatre in which 15 young pianists from the Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) will play the 15 pieces from Spectrum 5.

Spectrum 5 was compiled by pianist and RCMJD professor Thalia Myers, and the collection includes 15 specially commissioned works by leading composers Victoria Borisova-Ollas, Philip Cashian, Chen Yi, Michael Finnissy, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Graham Fitkin, Helen Grime, Gavin Higgins, Gabriel Jackson, Harold Meltzer, Poul Ruders, Timothy Salter, Howard Skempton, Karen Tanaka and Huw Watkins.

Since its inception, the Spectrum series has produced six compilations for piano (including Spectrum for Piano Duet) and additional anthologies for cello, clarinet and violin, containing a total of 225 new works. Thalia Myers' recording of all 15 pieces will also be released on 5 November and will available to download from ABRSM, iTunes and Amazon. Tickets for the concert are free, but required and are available from the RCM Box Office.
