Celebrating Granados

Enrique Granados' piano suite Goyescas Op. 11 (subtitled Los majos enamorados - the gallants in Love) forms the centre-piece of pianist José Menor's concert at St John's Smith Square on Wednesday 2 November 2016 celebrating the centenary of Granados' death. The suite, written in 1909 and 1910 and premiered by the composer in 1911, was inspired by the paintings of Goya though the individual pieces have not been associated with particular paintings.

José Menor is joined by the Latin Classical Chamber Orchestra, guitarist Laura Snowden, and flamenco dancer Nina Corti in a programme which explores Goya's era and its intoxicating effect on the Romantic imagination of Granados’ contemporaries and beyond, including music by Manuel de Falla, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and the film music of Roque Baños. The programme was originally curated for The National Gallery as part of its 2015 exhibition 'Goya: The Portraits'.
