Tonight (1 April 2017) sees the first event of the new season at Music at Woodhouse (artistic director Monika Saunders). At 6pm tonight at Woodhouse Copse, Surrey, lutenist Taro Takeuchi gives an introduction and concert, playing seven different string instruments. Later this month the 2017 Music at Woodhouse Baroque Academy will culminate in a pair of staged performances of Cavalli's La Calisto at the John McIntosh Arts Centre, London SW6 1AW on 22 & 23 April 2017 with Marcio da Silva as music director and stage director
Further ahead, the season continues at Woodhouse Copse (an Arts and Crafts house in Surrey with a garden laid out by Gerturde Jekyll), with performances of David Crook's English adaptation of Machiavelli's play The Mandrake (20 May 2017), Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie (1 & 2 July 2017), a piano recital from Hiro Takenouchi (16 July) and a staging of Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore (9 & 10 September)
Music at Woodhouse will also be staging Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea at the John McIntosh Arts Centre on 29 & 30 July 2017, with Marcio da Silva as music director and stage director.
