Shaker tunes, Schubert & Tchaikovsky: Matthew Sharp and the Northern Chamber Orchestra

Matthew Sharp
Matthew Sharp
Cellist and baritone Matthew Sharp [see my interview with Matthew] will be demonstrating his versatility when he joins the Northern Chamber Orchestra for a concert on Friday 9 March 2018 at Stockport Town Hall. The programme includes Tchaikovsky's Roccoco Variations with Sharp as the soloist, and then after the interval, Sharp will be singing Schubert's Erlkönig in an arrangement for baritone and strings. There is also something of a Shaker theme to the second half of the concert, which features Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring alongside a new piece by the orchestra's composer-in-residence James Manson, Meeting at Nisqueunia, which features a collection of Shaker melodies.

In the days leading up to the concert, Matthew Sharp will also be working as animateur with the pupils of Stockport schools on a project which will culminate in the performance of Copland’s Appalachian Spring.
