The Crouch End Festival Chorus (CEFC) has just announced the two successful candidates for the second year of its Young Conductors Mentoring Scheme. For 2020-2021, Charlie Perry and Elliot Mercer will work with CEFC's conductor David Temple and the choir in rehearsals, concerts and recordings.

Seventeen young musicians (aged 18-35) applied for the 2020-2021 programme, and each was asked to prepare two pieces (from Faure's Requiem and from Bernstein's Chichester Psalms) and conduct a small choir. Charlie Perry (24) studied at Manchester University and combines a number of choral conducting posts, including being director of music at Manchester Oratory, with a career as a professional tenor. Elliot Mercer (22) studied at Birmingham University and combines conducting with a post in the music department at Frances Holland School for Girls, and as a student he sang with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.
