This year, Ex Cathedra's Christmas Music by Candelight will include something that extra bit special. The Birmingham-based choir under its music director Jeffrey Skidmore will be presenting a programme of Christmas music and readings which will include Christopher Churcher's Before the Ice in the Pools, winner of the Sir David Willcocks’ Carol Competition 2021. Christopher - who is aged only 18 - is a former member of Ex Cathedra’s Academy of Choral Music youth choir, so there is particular joy for the company to perform his award-winning composition.
The concerts, lit only by candles, will tour to St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury; St James the Greater, Leicester; Hereford Cathedral; Kidderminster Town Hall; St Peter’s Church, Wolverhampton; Coventry Cathedral; St John’s Smith Square, London and St Paul’s Church in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, between Friday 2 and Friday 23 December 2022.
And for those wanting something a little more classical, on 4 December, Ex Cathedra is joined by its Baroque Orchestra for Bach's Christmas Oratorio at Birmingham's Symphony Hall.
