Mivos Quartet - from Britten to Latin America

Mivos Quartet
The New York-based Mivos Quartet is celebrating the pre-release of their debut solo album, Reappearances, with a concert at The Forge, Camden on Thursday 12 June 2013 in which the quartet will be playing a programme which mixes music by Benjamin Britten and Wolfgang Rihm with works by young Latin American Composers.

The Mivos Quartet (Olivia de Prato, Joshua Modney, Victor Lowrie and Mariel Roberts) was formed in 2008 and is devoted to performing the works of contemporary composers. The quartet was one of five groups selected for the Young Ensembles Fellowship at the 2012 Darmstadt Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, where they were awarded a Fellowship Prize for Interpretation and invited back for the next Darmstadt Festival in 2014.

Their new album, Reappearances, was recorded in January 2013 at Snape Maltings in Aldeburgh as part of the quartet's two week residency.  The quartet returns to Aldeburgh on 14 June 2013 for a concert for the Britten centenary celebrations, when they play Britten's String Quartet no. 3 alongside Joshua Modney's arrangement of William Byrd's Mass in Four Voices.

At The Forge on 12 June the quartet will be performing Britten's String Quartet no. 3, which was completed in 1975. Alongside they why will play Wolfgang Rihm's Quartettstudie from 2003-4, Felipe Lara's Corde Vocale (2005) and Mario Diaz de Leon's Moonblood (2004-5).
