Jonathan Dove's opera Mansfield Park, based on the novel by Jane Austen, was originally written for ten singers accompanied by piano four-hands. With 2017 being the 200th anniversary of the death of Jane Austen, Dove is producing a new version of the opera orchestrated for 13 musicians. The new version has been commissioned by the Grange Festival and is being premiered not as part of the festival's regular June/July season but in an extension to the season in September 2017.

Jonathan Dove's Mansfield Park with a libretto by Alasdair Middleton was commissioned by Heritage Opera and premiered by them in 2011. Subsequent performances have included the Royal Academy of Music and Hampstead Garden Opera.

Mansfield Park will be performed at the Grange Festival on 16 & 17 September 2017 in a new production directed by Martin Lloyd-Evans and conducted by David Parry, with Martha Jones, Sarah Pring, Grant Doyle, Angharad Lyddon, Henry Neil, Jeni Bern, Daisy Brown, Nick Pritchard and Oliver Johnston.
