The Hidden Valley is an opera by Richard Barnard with words by Alan Harris, which was commissioned by WNO MAX and is a development of Barnard and Harris's community opera, The Journey, created through WNO Max projects. We caught a performance at Tete a Tete the Opera Festival (see my review) in 2013. Now Operasonic, creative director Rhian Hutchings, which is based in Newport, South Wales, is looking to CrowdFund three performances of a new production of The Hidden Valley for familiy audiences at St Georges Bristol, and a creative education project to 10 Bristol schools.

The creative team include director Rhian Hutchings and the three singers from Juice Vocals and Laura Pooley (who all sang in the 2013 performances), plus Piotr Lempa and Aled Powys Williams. The performances at St Georges Bristol are planned for 29, 30 June & 1 July 2016. For the schools project, Operasonic will be working with Bristol Plays Music and the 10 local schools to provide an introduction to the opera with live excerpts, creative composing sessions with composer Richard Barnard and two musicians from the touring company, a design project, and a twilight CPD workshop for teachers on creative music making with Richard Barnard.

The company already has a grant pledged from the Arts Council and are looking to CrowdFunding to help with the project. They have eight days left and have only 24% of target left to reach. Do help them reach it.
