Youthful mastery in Macclesfield

BBC Young Musician 2014, pianist Martin James Bartlett will be performing with the Northern Chamber Orchestra, artistic director Nicholas Ward, in their concert on 5 March 2016 at Macclesfield Heritage Centre. Martin James Bartlett will be the soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 12 in A major K414 which was written in 1782, one of a group of concertos Mozart wrote not long after arriving in Vienna. Bartlett won the BBC competition when he was 17, and has since gone on to make his debut at the BBC Proms in 2014, performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Ulster Orchestra broadcast live from Belfast as part of the BBC's Last Night celebrations. He also performed with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Bournemouth Pavilion as soloist in the opening concert of their 2014/15 Season

The programme also features Tchaikovsky’s Serenade Mélancolique, Mendelssohn’s String Symphony no 7 in D minor (one of twelve string symphonies he wrote from 1821 - 1823, aged between 12 and 14 years of age) and little-known, Haydn Symphony 57 in D, written in 1774.

The remaining concerts in the orchestras Macclesfield series are NCO Soloists playing Schubert’s Octet (9 April) and Craig Ogden playing Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Guitar Concerto no 1 in D (14 May)
