The UK-based, New Zealand-born conductor Holly Mathieson has been appointed as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra's new Assistant Conductor. This is a two year post and previous incumbents have included Jean-Claude Picard, and David Danzmayr who is now Music Director of Ohio’s ProMusica Chamber Orchestra and Music Director of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

Holly Mathieson continues as conductor for the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland’s Junior Orchestra. This year she worked as assistant conductor at Longborough Festival Opera (Tannhauser) and Opera North (L'Elisir d'Amore). We recently saw Holly conducting the Southbank Sinfonia in John Adams' Chamber Symphony (see my review) and she conducted the Christine Collins Young Artists performance of Delibes' Lakme at Opera Holland Park in 2015 (see my review)
