Somewhere for the weekend - Peasmarsh Chamber Music Festival

Peasmarsh in East Sussex is the venue for the Peasmarsh Chamber Music Festival which takes place from 23 to 26 June 2016. The main festival venue is the historic Church of St Peter and St Paul which is a Norman building altered in the 13th century. The festival is run by artistic directors Anthony Marwood (violin) and Richard Lester (cello), and this year they are joined by violinist Carmit Zori, cellist Lilli Mijala, cellist Christoph Richter, the Castalian String Quartet, and pianists Alexander Melnikov, plus the London Mozart Players, conducted by Jaime Martin. 

Beethoven's works are a feature of the programme this year with his Violin Concerto, String Quartet No. 7 and Piano Trio in E Flat, Op.70 no.2. The festival opens with Schumann's Piano Quartet and concludes with Schumann's Piano Quintet, and along the way there is Shostakovich, Ravel, Faure, Mozart and mch more. Other delights include a concert of music inspired by the hunt including Jorg Widmann's Jagdquartett, and Alasdair Beatson & Alexander Melnikov will be giving a late night performance of the piano four-hands version of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
