Enric Granados |
On 27 & 28 June 2016, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is holding a festival, Homage to Catalonia, to celebrate Granados and his work. The festival, presented in association with the Instituto Cervantes and the Institut Ramon Llull, is under the artistic direction of pianist Elena Riu and offers the opportunity to hear music by Granados and his contemporaries.
Over the two days there is the chance to hear Granados' complete Goyescas in its original piano version played by Marta Zabaleta, director of the Academia Marshall in Barcelona (a post which Granados held), whilst Elena Riu's recital will include The Maiden and the Nightingale, Eight Poetic Waltzes, selections from Spanish Dances and the song cycle Tonadillas al estilo antiguo. There are performances of music by other Catalan composers Frederic Mompou, Roberto Gerard, Llorenç Balsach, Salvador Brotons, and Salvador Pueyo, along with 19th century piano music, new music and improvisations. There is also a lecture by Professor Walter Aaron Clark, Granados' biographer.
All the events in the festival are free, and take place at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Full information from the Trinity Laban website.
