The Bach Family at the Barbican

WF Bach
JS Bach's eldest son
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach
Soprano Lucy Crowe and conductor Reinhard Goebel will be joining the Academy of Ancient Music for their concert on Saturday 18 June 2016 at the Barbican Hall, when the whole Bach family will be celebrated. In addition to JS Bach's Cantata No. 51 'Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen', heard in an arrangement by his son WF Bach, there will also be sinfonias by CPE Bach, WF Bach and JCF Bach plus a scena La Tempesta by JC Bach.

CPE and JC were perhaps the most successful of Bach's song, whilst WF seems to have had difficulty capitalising on his position as Bach's eldest son. It is rare to hear music so many of JS Bach's sons and the evening promises to be a fascinating evening, especially as the age range of the sons is so wide (WF was 25 years older than JC) which means the styles of music promise to be varied.

There is a chance to hear conductor Reinhard Goebbel talking about the programme in a pre-concert talk at 6.30pm. Further information from the Barbican website.
