Celebrating Astor Piazzolla's centenary with a new competition

The Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla would have been 100 on 11 March this year, and in celebration, the Fundación Astor Piazzolla, the composer’s family, and PARMA Recordings have joined forces to announce the inaugural Piazzolla Music Competition. 

Open to all pre-professional and professional soloists and ensembles of six or fewer, the competition aims to identify and celebrate highly talented musicians of any instrument or voice type with an affinity for Astor Piazzolla’s music. 

Repertoire for the competition must be taken from works by Astor Piazzolla, and submissions are by video, at least two pieces totalling at least six minutes. 

Prizes include cash prizes, a recording contract with PARMA, a tour of China and other performances, and masterclass opportunities.

Finalists will be listed publicly on 18 May 2021, and the Winners Announcement will take place on 15 June 2021
