ORA Singers has launched its third Composer Competition - its free mentoring scheme for young composers from UK State Schools. 10 Finalists will be selected to receive free one-to-one mentoring by professional composers in order to write an original choral work. These pieces will pieces then performed and recorded by ORA Singers, and adjudicated by a panel of industry experts.
A further 40 40 Apprentices will receive behind-the-scenes access to the Competition, and 8 hours of online compositional masterclasses, introducing them to many aspects of choral history and compositional technique. At the end of these masterclasses, the Apprentices will write their own choral work which will be looked over by the Workshop Leaders.
Applications to the ORA Singers Composer Competition are now open for young aspiring composers born on or after 1 September 2003 and attending a UK non-fee paying secondary state-school. Applications close on Monday 7 February 2022, full details from the ORA Singers website.
